Provide education to communities, rehabilitate animals under Cottonwood Rehab, and provide support to wildlife rehabilitation efforts in NM

Cottonwood Rehab

Cottonwood Rehab is what we call our wildlife rehabilitation program. It is the only facility that can rehabilitate American Black Bears in New Mexico. Headed by Dr. Kathleen Ramsay aka "Bear Doc", who brings over 40 years of veterinary experience. She has successfully rehabbed over 700 Black Bears.

In addition to bears, we are also licensed to rehab  other mammals and birds. We also have the only foster mom elk who has helped raise countless elk calfs.

LEWF
Education Program

LEWF feels not only is it important to provide rehabilitation to wildlife, but, also to educate the community about wildlife -- especially those who live in areas that are prone to encounters with wildlife. We bring pelts, skulls, foot prints, and live birds to many of our events to help teach.

LEWF attends community events throughout the year. If you are interested in hosting us for an education event, please contact us. We can customize our program to suit your educational needs.

LEWF also annually co-hosts Bear Dinner and Bear Festival with Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC). This event helps spread awareness about living with bears and animals.

Grants provided and Support

From the start, LEWF has been committed to helping other rehabilitation efforts within the state of New Mexico. We have done this by providing support such as grants, volunteers, services, materials, and supplies to many rehabilitation programs throughout the state.
